Environmental, social, and governance (ESG) training courses were initiated by the Banking Association of Georgia.

ESG is the business practice created taking into account environmental, social and governance factors contributing to the sustainable development of goods and services as well as the organization itself. Currently, Georgia is not an exception to the global mandate for the deployment of ESG principles.

The Banking Association of Georgia established an educational program and institutionally reinforced the ESG field as early as 2023, with the support from the EFSE Development Program and the International Financial Corporation (IFC).

Training sessions began in February 2024. The first target group included representatives from the banking sector. The following step will include training sessions for other representatives of financial sector and businesses.

“Today, raising awareness about ESG and sustainable financing is of utmost importance. The Banking industry plays a crucial role in transitioning to a sustainable economy, and the sector is a leader in the introduction and implementation of ESG practices.

Banks are the most essential gateways for businesses to better grasp the value of ESG principles. In addition to the banking sector, our agenda includes training sessions for the business sector and other target groups”, stated Alexander Dzneladze, President of the Banking Association of Georgia.
